Chocolate Almond Bars

I haven't really cooked in the last few days, but then got that "need" again so I dropped everything, and put out some butter to soften.  But, then that was going to take too long so, I popped that sucker in the microwave.  I was going to make some chocolate chip bars, but then realized that I didn't have any suitable vanilla on hand, so I improvised and used almond extract.  I was a little skeptical, but ended up not needing to be, they turned out better than I could have hoped for.

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup milk chocolate chips
1 cup dark chocolate chips
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda

Thanks to my sister Shauna for being my hand model.  Didn't she do a faboo job?

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Cream together butter and sugars, add eggs and almond extract, then mix until smooth.  Stir in chocolate chips.  In  separate bowl combine flour, salt, and baking soda.  Add flour to butter mixture a little at a time until well combined.  Once combined place dough in a 9x13 pan and place in the oven for 30 minutes.  Remove from oven and cut into squares.  Place back in oven for another 15 minutes.  Remove from oven again, and let cool before serving.

Yield: 24 bars
